TRYOUT REGISTRATION FOR 2023/2024 BEACH SEASON

Chicago's premier JUNIORS BEACH VOLLEYBALL 2023 - 2024 tRYOUTS

Juniors Beach Volleyball Tryout Registration for the 2023-2024 Sessions

BEACH VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS DETAILS

Each July many families are being forced to sign a contract with no guarantee on what the dynamic of their experience will be – they don’t know the coaches, teammates, or environment. We’re the one game in town that can look you in the eye and guarantee the same quality of development no matter what your child’s level is.

Sign up for a 2-hour session where we run the athletes through a live practice with the same coaches they’ll get to work with in the Fall or Winter. If you like it? We’ll be happy to take the first 24 11-14U athletes and first 32 15-18U Athletes that want to enroll. Each tryout will be followed by a program overview/q&a session with parents and players.

Try us out on these dates from 6pm-8pm

  • Thursday August 10th
  • Tuesday August 15th
  • Thursday August 17th

11-14 4’s Program (12 spots per tryout date) - $35/player
15-18 2’s Program (8 spots per tryout date) - $40/player

Youth sports has become more about income than outcome over the last decade. Progression was created to provide an experience that helps every athlete become the best version of themselves they can be – regardless of level. If you feel the current model of youth sports hasn’t served your child’s best interests, we believe we’re what you’ve been looking for.

HAVE QUESTIONS? WE GOT ANSWERS

  • What age groups does your camp cover?

We coach juniors ages 11 through 18. We will offer two sessions for 11-14U and two sessions for 15-18U. Groups will train twice a week, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Practice times are 8:30-10:30am and 10:30am-12:30pm.

If the time slots do not work for you or the outdoor camp doesn't cover you (boys/adults), please contact us as we do offer customized programming in the afternoons/evenings at our facility.

  • Where are practices held?

All practices will be at Four Lakes in Lisle - the compound is a little tricky to navigate if you've never been there, but if you google maps Basecamp Pub (5750 Lakeside Drive, Lisle IL), it'll take you right to the courts.

  • What should we bring to each practice?

Every athlete should bring the following to practice:

    • Sunscreen
    • Sunglasses
    • Towel
    • AMPLE amounts of water
    • Snack (in case they get light-headed)
    • Beach Volleyball

**ALL athletes should have some sort of breakfast before practice. The majority of times that kids get affected by the heat, they’ve said they hydrated but did not have breakfast that morning, or they only had something small like a banana/granola bar. The temperatures are hot and the kids are participating in high-energy activity: Please make sure they’re fueled properly!**

  • Do we need to bring our own volleyballs?

We're asking that everyone bring the volleyball provided by the camp to be used at practice. Please write in permanent marker on your ball to ensure it doesn't get mistaken for someone else's.

  • What if the weather is bad?

If it rains, we’ll play through it – if there’s lightning, we will immediately suspend play. If the weather is looking ominous prior to practice, we will make a decision an hour before practice as some people have a bit of a commute. Sometimes, the forecast is awful and we don’t see anything. Other times the radar shows nothing and we get a downpour. We’ll do our best to find a balance for our athletes, but safety always comes first.

Once we see the final numbers for summer programming we can make a plan of attack on how make-ups can be done and we will notify the parents.

  • Do we get uniforms?

All participants will receive a Progression Beach Volleyball T-Shirt when they join our camp. We will also be selling tank tops and other PBV apparel for those that may want additional clothing.

  • Will there be coaches at tournaments?

Some people have asked if there will be availability to have us coach at tournaments. The program does not include weekend tournaments: While it certainly helps to have coaches at tournaments, if we follow the guidelines, we aren’t allowed to talk to our players aside from timeouts and in between games. Our goal with the program is to teach the kids how to think, how to read their opponent, and how to coach themselves, just like they’ll have to as adults. It’s very important for the athletes to become self-reliant in matches.

In the event that a large amount of our teams are registered for a tournament, we do try to send coaches: We will ask parents to let us know what tournaments their athletes are playing and do our best to come attend when able.

PARENT/PLAYER BEHAVIOR

One of the hardest things to deal with at this point in time is the fact that while beach has exploded for juniors, the education of the game is trying to play catch-up. The supply of coaches with a beach background pales in comparison to the demand. This causes a few problems.

You are going to be told at just about every tournament that parents cannot coach, then you’re going to watch other parents do exactly that. You are going to see athletes in the role of referees that have no idea how to do so, or perhaps they’re from the same club as your opponents. Sometimes this will put your athletes at a disadvantage. Coaches from other clubs are supposed to only coach during timeouts and between games, but they will coach when they’re not supposed to. Part of the issue for the bigger tournaments is there isn’t enough staff to be able to monitor all the courts, and due to this people will take advantage of the system.
We do not ‘Fight fire with fire’. If parents see something that they don’t think is right, they should to go the main tent area and notify a tournament director of what they’re witnessing. Sometimes the director will step in and do the right thing, other times it won’t make a difference. While we cannot control external circumstances that don’t go our way, we do control how we respond to them. It is SO important not to let bad calls/behavior by outside parties affect our athletes’ focus mid-match, as well as our own behavior. While it isn’t always fair, we feel this is something our athletes can learn from: We’ve all worked at companies where someone does everything right, only to watch their peer get the promotion due to political reasons. Our kids are going to go through life and experience moments where they do everything right, yet they don’t get the results they want/deserve. How they respond to that will be crucial to their success, and we should remember that during these moments.

CHANGING THE GAME

One last thing: I can only imagine how hard it is to watch our kids compete. I highly recommend watching this video. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, I ask you to at least start at 6:50. It’ll only take 7 minutes and I think it’s a very important resource.
